mehdi moradpour
Born in 1979 in Teheran. He studied physics and industrial engineering at Nur and Kazvin universities, at the same time he participated in several theatre projects. In 2001 moradpour emigrated to Germany. In 2004 – 2011 he studied at first IT and sociology in Leipzig and then Hispanic studies, American studies, and Arabic studies in Havana. In addition to writing theatre plays, he works in Berlin as a translator and interpreter from Persian to Spanish. In 2013 he was nominated for the Munich Prize for German Language Drama (Münchner Förderpreis für deutschsprächige Dramatik) with the play The Pure Country (reines land). In 2015 his text Mummies. A Home Game (mumien. ein heimspiel) won the Special Jury Prize in the competition organized by theatres in St. Gallen and Constanz. In spring 2016 his musical chemo brother premiered in Berlin’s theatre Deutsche Oper. In the same year, he also won with his play The Tower of Silence (türme des schweigens) the competition of the exiled dramatists organized by Wiener Worstaetten.
