Ferdinand Vanek Award 2017

For the third time approached theatre magazine Svet a divadlo in cooperation with its partners foremost European playwright and asked to write short political play.
The motto of this year’s edition – „plays on politics“  - wants to emphasise current times, when we feel, that real politics loses its true meaning and on the rise are one-dimensionality, various phobias as well as disrespect to the facts. We also have the feeling that some politicians only consider politics as an field for their own „plays and games“, that politics are no more clash of the ideas, only of self-important egos.
When approaching the author we nevertheless stress, that we consider “politics” in its widest meaning possible, that is – in brief – as everything affecting the polis, or society.

As in previous edition, also this year the winner of Ferdinand Vanek Award will be chosen by international jury and all the texts will be published in Czech translation as a special issue of our magazine.

Awarding ceremony will be held on November 26th 2017 at Divadlo v Celetné in Prague. Texts will also be presented at Warsaw, Budapest, Bratislava and Brno.
